CYP1A2

The CYP1A2 gene encodes a member of the cytochrome p450 family of proteins.

CYP1A2 Location- mainly in the liver, also the lungs and pancreas.

Important Factors- Interactions with environment and foods that you eat; the rate that toxins are metabolized; how well Phase II detoxification is at removing metabolites; influences treatment response of several antipsychotics; caffeine can prevent estrogen from being metabolized which can lead to estrogen dominance symptoms (bloating, breast tenderness, fluid accumulation, weight gain).

CYP1A2 is induced by- cruciferous veggies: broccoli., cabbage, cauliflower; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in cigarette smoke.

CYP1A2 is inhibited by- chamomile, cumin (curcumin), dandelion, oral contraceptive, peppermint, St. John’s wort, turmeric.

CYP1A2 is involved in- metabolizes tobacco smoke into carcinogens; processing hormones; turning aflatoxins (mold on grain) into active compounds in liver cancer.

CYP1A2 metabolizes- Caffeine; Drugs: clozapine, Cymbalta, MDMA (ecstasy), olanzapine, tacrine, theophylline, Tylenol (acetaminophen), Wellbutrin, Zyprexa; Hormones: bilirubin, estrogens (estrone and estradiol), melatonin, and uroporphyrinogen; Toxins: aflatoxin B1, aromatic heterocyclic amines, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
