FUT2

The Fructosyltransferase 2 (FUT2) protein aids in the production of certain sugar groups that are secreted by intestinal cells to attract good bacteria into the bowel; aids in regulating A/B/O blood groups (Caucasians). Carriers can be labeled as a secretor or a non-secretor. It is important to determine this status as it could aid in finding susceptibilities.

Antigens- molecules in the blood that trigger an immune response. Antibodies are the receptors for antigens.

Lewis antigens- a protein on red blood cells that are located on the: kidney, gastrointestinal area, and genitals.
