NAT1
NAT1
Acetylation (N-acetyltransferase): The NAT1 gene encodes an enzyme that plays a part in the transfer of an acetyl group from acetyl-CoA to various arylamine and hydrazine substrates.
NAT1 metabolizes- p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) which is common in sunscreens; p-aminosalicylic acid (PAS) an antibiotic for tuberculosis; various drugs; folate catabolism.
It also aids in the breakdown of- cigarette smoke and heterocyclic aromatic amines (in meats and seafood grilled at a high temperature).
Low acetylcholine levels- responsible for the multiple chemical sensitivity symptoms; trouble remembering dreams.
High acetylcholine levels- vivid nightmares.
